'' The Voodoo Collection celebrates the mysticism, magic, and expansiveness of the religion, inspired by its permanence in the New Orleans landscape and culture. ''

Let me start off by saying that the launch party for the VooDoo Collection by Porter Lyons was by far, the coolest event I've ever been to. It took place on the rooftop of an apartment complex in the Bywater a couple Saturdays ago. The evening's entertainment consisted of  flame-throwers, tarot card readers, a fortune teller, and a killer red carpet. How many red carpet events have you been to where the props were an alligator, snake, or nutria?! (The snake's mouth wasn't taped shut so I passed.)

As I expected, the entire line was absolutely amazing.  I loved her use of natural/precious stones, darker colored metals, as well as how she incorporated parts of the snakes into her designs. It gave the collection a very spooky and tribal vibe. The Damballah Necklace, Mississippi Snake Ring, and the gold Cobra Drop Earrings were a few of my favorites.

For my outfit, I stuck to my usual uniform - a black top, distressed denim, and strappy heels.

You can shop all the items that were featured in this post here !!

Still can't get enough of this mysterious line? Check out some of the other collections, here.

Hello dears! I'm so excited to share this month's Wear It Three Ways segment with you!
I'll be showing you how to style the Bourbon St Double Necklace from Porter Lyons ! What
I love most about this necklace is how versatile it is. It can be worn two ways as a necklace
and one way as a bracelet. Also being used in this shoot is the Coypu Ring, also by Porter
  Lyons.

For the first look I wore the necklace as a bracelet, you simply pull apart the magnetic
closure and wrap then it around your wrist and voila! I wish all necklaces were like this, honestly.
If it wasn't so hot outside the day I shot these photos I would have paired it with some sleek
leather pants and strappy-heels. Instead, I chose to spice up this simple striped tee and dark
  wash denim jeans and sandals.

For the second look I wore the necklace in it's original form and added a little more glitz by
exposing the embellished magnetic closure. I would wear it this way wit either a very simple
outfit (a sweater and jeans) or a nicer outfit (a dress with a high or ow neckline) to showcase
  the necklace's detail.

For the last look I wore the necklace and kept it simple to showcase the necklace's chic
silver chains. I would style this with a super lush cable-knit sweater or with a t-shirt like in this
 post.

Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed this post!

P.S Jewelry from Porter Lyons will also be featured in next month's Wear It Three Ways Post!

Hello dears! I am so excited to share my collaboration with Porter Lyons with you! If you
recall my post during White Linen Night (see post, here), you'll remember how much I loved
each one of Ashley Porter's designs.

For this post, I got to step into the behind-the-scenes world of Porter Lyons when I visited her studio. There were black alligator skins hanging from the wall, several  detailed mood boards complete with drawings and sketches of her latest designs, and loads of her fabulous pieces spread around the room ( can we talk about that rhinestone embellished belt?!)

It was such an amazing experience and I can't wait to share the final accessorized looks
with you!  But, until then check out my interview with the designer and learn about how she got
started and how she describes her personal style.

My favorite piece - the Knuckle Ring. It makes such a statement! Find it, here .

1) Q. How did you get into jewelry design and what have you learned from being a designer?

PL: Jewelry design is something I have always wanted to do.  I went to FIDM in Los Angles to learn design skills that have become the tools I use in my work today.  It all started when I moved back to New Orleans and took a trip down to the swamp to pick up some alligator skin when I came across their backbones.  My whole concept of launching an exotic skin belt company went on the backburner and I started teaching myself about how to make jewelry.

2) Q. Out of all your fabulous designs, which are you most proud of?

PL: My backbone collection, specifically the backbone cuff.  It was my first piece of jewelry I ever made and the inspiration behind it was a light bulb moment.

3) Q. Describe your personal style in 3 words.

PL: Statement through understatement.

4) Q. What is your favorite place in New Orleans?

PL: This is a tough one!  Probably City Park, running or lying down under the live oak trees.

5) Q.  How do you define 'elegance'?

PL: Elegance is being confidant in who you are.

Hope you enjoyed this behind the scenes post! Stay tuned for later outfit posts where I
show you how I style my favorite Porter Lyons designs this fall!  Be sure to check out her
online store (here) and tell me which design is your favorite!
