There's nothing I love more than a great striped dress. This one by Max Studio has recently become one of my favorites and I love the nautical-ness of it. Often times people stay away from horizontal stripes because they think it makes them appear larger than they are. That isn't always the case.  It is the case, however, that certain kinds of stripes can give off that illusion. The thicker the stripe, the larger you appear. The reason being that it separates your body into large chunks and can be very unflattering.

One of the reasons I love this dress is because of how the stripes are layered. It's extremely flattering and actually makes you appear thinner and defines your waist!

I paired it with red jewelry and white sandals for a beachy feel. For a more formal look I would have worn black heels and a white (or black)  leather jacket and my usual array of gold rings.

In other news, I've been growing out my bangs! I was time for a change and it felt kind of strange, but I'm really happy with how they're coming along.

Happy Monday!

During my quick trip to Shreveport I had the chance to shoot the look I wore to my friend's wedding. I had been on the lookout for 'the perfect jumpsuit' for quite sometime before I happened upon this one at Kenneth Cole store located inside the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk.

It's absolutely fantastic. I love how easy it is to take it from a fancy evening look (as I've styled here) or, pair it with sandals and a long cardigan for casual summer ensemble.

I topped off the look with a (borrowed) Chanel bag, some gorgeous gold rings, and a statement bracelet from Stella & Dot.

Life has been so crazy lately. From being sick and missing work for almost a week, dealing with bad weather (making outfit shoots near impossible), to just having a demanding schedule - it's been nuts. (I've got some great things in the works for this little ol' blog...stay tuned!)

Although packing (any sort, really) is one of my least favorite activities, I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite things I packed for my three-day trip to Shreveport. As I've mentioned in previous posts, my entire wardrobe is composed of basic pieces and I find myself moving more and more away from any sort of color whatsoever. Black jeans....white tees.....brown/nude heels = my uniform. Just add a couple dainty gold accessories and a statement ring (or two) and you've got my current style.

For this trip I'm heading to Shreveport, Louisiana with the fam for a friend's wedding and some (much needed) r&r.

You can follow along on INSTAGRAM @theelegantblogger for more of my roadtrip snapshots and  #allblack assembles...hehe
